Dr. Bryan Arva is a Non-Resident Fellow at Orion Policy Institute and the Chair of the
Department of Justice, Law, Criminology and Security. Prior to taking on this role, he
served as the director of the master’s programs in Terrorism and Homeland Security Policy
as well as Counterterrorism and Homeland Security. Additionally, he is a Senior
Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Justice, Law, Criminology & Security in the
School of Public Affairs at American University. He currently serves on the
Counterterrorism Editorial Board for Homeland Security Today and is an Executive
Committee Member for the Council for European Studies. Prior to coming to American
University, he worked as a Researcher and Instructor at the National Consortium for the
Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland. His
research and teaching interests include terrorism, counterterrorism, homeland security,
radicalization, preventing violent extremism, and the effects of new information and
communications technologies (ICTs) on political violence.
