Author

In this episode of Orion Talks, host Marta Furlan talks with Héctor Camilo Morales Muñoz about the current situation in Colombia. The conversation starts with an overview of the current political and security climate in Colombia, with some reflections on where the country stands half a year before the elections in May 2026. Morales Muñoz then proceeds to reflect on the relations between Colombia and its South American neighbors, focusing on issues of climate diplomacy and environmental peacebuilding. From there, the conversation expands to discussing the relations between Colombia and the US, which have seemed particularly tense during the latest UNGA in New York.

Héctor Camilo Morales Muñoz is Senior Advisor for Climate Diplomacy and Security at Adelphi, with over fifteen years of experience at the intersection of climate, peace, and development in fragile and conflict-affected regions across Latin America and Africa. Héctor specialises in leveraging climate and environmental challenges as opportunities for cooperation and social cohesion. He has advised governments, multilaterals, and NGOs—including GIZ, FAO, UN Environment Program, and UNDP—on conflict-sensitive strategies, and has supported pioneering climate security and environmental peacebuilding initiatives in the Andean Region, Nigeria, Sudan, and for the African Union. Héctor holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and is a PhD candidate at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
