Nawal Ammar, Ph.D.

Dr. Nawal Ammar is the Dean of the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at Rowan University. Previously, she spent 9 years as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Prior to that, Dr. Ammar taught as a professor at Kent State University in the United States for 12 years. Her research areas include Arab laws, violence against Arab, Muslim and immigrant women, women in the criminal justice system and restorative justice. Dr. Ammar’s recent research includes an edited volume on Muslims in American Prisons. Dr. Ammar has published several manuscripts, more than 90 refereed articles, book chapters and policy reports. Her work has been used in a number of international agencies and governments. She has participated in a number of United Nations Conferences, has authored and co-authored several reports for the United Nations and has been a consultant for the organization.
